Everyone talks about the culture in Sarasota. From the Ringling Museum to the Asolo Theatre and Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall, the Sarasota Opera House and the Florida West Coast Symphany there are certainly plenty of cultural activities to do in Sarasota, Florida.

But I'd like to remind everyone why some of the earlier settlers came to this sunny paradise in the begining.

John and Mable Ringling built their home on Big Sarasota bay between 1924 and 1926 facing west to take advantage of the stunning sunsets over the water. They moored their motor yacht in front of the mansion and at times took it to the main dock at the base of Main Street (now Marina Jack's). Click on this link for some great old pictures of the Ringlings in their various boats and yachts. http://www.ncf.edu/novak/gweb1/Archives/Ringling/captain.htm

Boating has always been a big part of the "culture" of Sarasota and it's enjoyed even more today!

Maureen and I have had 11 boats over the past 28 years from a small dingy to a 32 foot Sea Ray and we've never tired of being out on the water near Sarasota. It's just one more reason (of the many)we've loved living here in beautiful downtown Sarasota!!
